The Citizens Community Company return to the main stage with their version of Steinbeck’s classic. The Grapes Of Wrath is a story about the endurance of the human spirit and how simple solidarity can pull a population through its darkest times.
Driven from their home, the Joad family make the monumental trek westward to California, joining thousands of other migrants in search of land, jobs and dignity. Seduced by the prospect of a new life they invest everything they have in the journey. Their hopes rise and crumble as they struggle to survive the crossing - California may not be the promised land after all.

Nobel Prize winner John Steinbeck’s epic American novel about the Great Depression is given new life by this 30-strong community cast, the perfect canvas for a large ensemble, in a timely production about human resilience in the face of economic exploitation.

One Million Tiny Plays About Britain

Derived from the popular column in the Guardian newspaper, these brilliantly funny and at times heartbreaking snapshots of life in Britain have been adapted to create high octane montage theatre. A world premiere.
Play no. 39
(A sales assistant speaks to a customer in a shop in Glasgow)
“…oh, I know. And for shoes I can recommend at least seven places. So yeah, it’s a lot different around here. Changes. Yeah. Apparently they used to make…(pause) …Ships”

Racing through the high streets, low streets, fields and suburbs of the British Isles, overheard conversations reveal glimpses of modern life.

Middle-aged Tom pleads for his job to his Blackberry savvy team leaders, a mother shares her paranoia about Santa’s lapsed criminal record check, and a tractor driver declares his disillusion with drum and bass.

These tiny plays in which every one of us could have a starring role, bring together a portrait of a country both enriched and plagued with culture clashes - a reflection on the state we’re in.

A magical story for children about growing up, adapted from a well-loved Native American folktale.
Jump on the second bus – the driver’s saved you a seat. Here’s Martin, who’s having a bad day (it’s tough being 9 ½). Come with him and meet a bullfrog blues band, a clapped-out bison, a forgetful wolf… and a very unusual little mouse, who’s about to have a very big adventure.

Unpacked use live music and songs, puppetry, high-octane physicality and bits of a London bus to tell a magical story.

Shappi Khorsandi is one of the hottest comedy prospects in the country. Part of the 2010 Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival.
As seen on Live at the Apollo, Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, The Secret Policeman’s Ball, 8/10 Cats and Have I Got News For You, Shappi Khorsandi is feisty, flirty and effortlessly funny she handles every subject with a razor sharp wit, softened only by her deliciously dizzy delivery and endless charm. Shappi Khorsandi is also the best-selling author of A Beginners Guide to Acting English.

“Britain’s best young female comic by any yardstick. ”

Self appointed grumpy team captain of Grumpy Old Women Live, Jenny Eclair is back on the road with a one-off stand-up show special. Part of the 2010 Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival.
After six years of writing books (OK one book), hosting radio shows, doing plays and hanging out with the ‘Grumpy posse’, Eclair returns to the festival with her critically acclaimed stand-up show. (Obviously she won’t be standing up all the time; she’ll need to sit down now and again to stop her ankles swelling). So…expect lots of stuff about motherhood, sausages, the etiquette of alcohol, clothes rage, why parties are rubbish and the joys of cantering. If you are going to treat yourself to a ticket, please laugh and clap very loudly, as she is a bit deaf and her hormones are all over the place. Men, accompanied or on the loose, most welcome.

5.30pm show added due to popular demand! Part of the 2010 Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival.
Fresh from his critically acclaimed BBC Show, Stewart Lee’s Comedy Vehicle, Stewart will be sharing his opinions on, amongst other things: Top Gear, piglets, bees, Iggy Pop, riots, cider adverts and emigration. For this, he will use various techniques such as: some punchy stuff near the top, inexplicable hostility towards relatively innocuous figures, silence, repetition, long routines experimenting with form rather than content, the possibility of failure, a quasi-serious bit at the end, and there might even be a song!

“The funniest, most cliché-free comedian on the circuit. ”

Alone and betrayed by a husband she sacrificed everything for, Medea unleashes a horrific vengeance on her enemies, making both assassins and victims of her own children.
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

Featuring one of the most powerful female roles in the history of drama, Medea is an intense story fuelled by passion, hatred and blistering rage. Heroic yet deadly, sympathetic yet appalling, Medea’s barbaric actions will stir your emotions as you find yourself irresistibly drawn into the nightmare world of this spectacularly vengeful woman.

Celebrated for their highly charged performance style, Northern Broadsides bring their trademark vitality, directness and energy to ignite the dramatic voltage of Tom Paulin’s gripping new version.

My Name is Rachel Corrie

The Citizens Company presents a one-woman play about Rachel Corrie, a twenty-three-year-old American, who was killed by an Israeli bulldozer in the Gaza Strip in 2003, as she was trying to prevent the demolition of Palestinian homes.
**** Scotsman
**** Herald
**** Guardian

Composed from Rachel’s own journals, letters, and emails, My Name is Rachel Corrie creates a portrait of a messy, skinny, articulate, Salvador Dali-loving chain-smoker (with a passion for the music of Pat Benatar), who left home and school in Olympia, Washington, “to support Palestinian non-violent resistance to Israel’s military occupation.”

Rachel’s original writings were edited by British actor Alan Rickman and Guardian editor Katharine Viner. In the three sold-out London runs since its Royal Court premiere, the piece has been surrounded by both controversy and impassioned proponents, and has garnered awards at every turn. Rachel Corrie’s writings have been translated into Arabic, Hebrew, French, Italian and Spanish and this powerfully honest insight into one of the most complicated international political conflicts continues to resonate across the world.

“A powerful, thought-provoking and deeply moving piece of theatre.”
Daily Telegraph

“Theatre can’t change the world. But what it can do, when it’s as good as this, is to send us out enriched by other people’s passionate concern.”
