Students of the Musical Theatre course from the Dance School of Scotland make their annual return to the Citizens following last year’s triumphant Once On This Island, with a revival of the 1960’s Tony award winning Broadway musical Bye Bye Birdie.
Bye Bye Birdie is a stage musical with a book by Michael Stewart, lyrics by Lee Adams, and music by Charles Strouse.

Originally titled Let’s Go Steady, the satire on American society is set in 1958. The story was inspired by the phenomenon of popular singer Elvis Presley and his draft notice into the Army in 1957.

Bye Bye Birdie will be directed by Johnny McKnight. The national centre for dance and musical theatre based in Knightswood Secondary School feature a large cast accompanied by a full professional orchestra.

FOOTFALLS
A woman paces tirelessly back and forth in conversation with her critically ill mother.

Humorous and moving studies of isolation and loneliness, these two one-act plays are spine-tingling masterpieces.

A rehearsed reading of an unruly comedy with a dark and savage streak, told in Scots. Part of NTS Reveal.
Set over the course of one increasingly unhinged night at the Oktoberfest fair in Munich, Ödön von Horváth’s love story about impoverished youth and their affluent, predatory elders is an absolute stage fixture in German-speaking countries, while having received scarcely any exposure whatsoever in the English-language theatre in the eight decades since it was originally penned. This reading will seek to take an overdue first step in rendering this major European classic to a fresh audience, presenting a brand-new Scots translation of the piece by Alan McKendrick, who also directs.
