The Monster in the Hall
TAG
A new play by David Greig, at the Citizens and touring in Autumn 2010.
Duck Macatarsney cares for her biker dad whose MS is getting increasingly bad. Her Dad - Duke - is a spliff smoking (for medicinal reasons you understand), bike riding, heavy metal loving, horror movie loving, pizza eating widower who’s brought up Duck since the death of her Mother in a crash. The two of them are just about surviving when one morning the Duke wakes up blind and the Duck hears that the Social Services are coming to take her away.
The Monster in the Hall follows Duck as she tries to protect her world from the terrifying prospect of change.
A low budget indie comedy musical about a girl on the verge of a nervous breakdown played out by four actors and a big fat motorbike which goes vrrooommm.
A new play from the same team that created the smash hit Yellow Moon (Best Show for Children and Young People TMA Awards 2007).

Hi there, I was wondering about booking this production "Monster In The Hall" to come to our school (Kinross High School, new Loch Leven Community Campus. I'd also be interested in offering some students the option of participating in the workshop. We have excellent brand new facilities here with a large assembly hall/theatre and plenty of accommodation to serve as Green Room/Dressing Room. Can you send me information and booking instructions? Thank you! Sincerely, L Moss

What a fabulous production, acting of the highest order, clever juxtaposition of complex social issues with parts of speech. It was certainly the best thing we saw this year at the Festival. As South Africans involved in the arts, living in Edinburgh for the past 3 years, we were so impressed and proud - well done! Good luck with the rest of your tour.

Hi Jackie, TAG originally stood for Theatre About Glasgow. It was developed as the outreach arm of the Citizens Theatre in 1967and the company would tour schools in Glasgow. It then developed into its own company with a Scotland wide remit touring productions for children and young people. Since 2007 it has been part of the Citizens Theatre again and continues to produce work young people including touring productions and a large workshop and project programme. There is more info in our history section (click on About). Hope that helps!

Hello Tag/Citz! I have a 4 year old daughter (5 next month) who I think would really benefit - and love - being involved in your drama classes. Are there any spaces left for the Autumn 'term'? If so could we book up a place for Alice? Jules (mum)

Hi Yvonne, Thanks for your comment. Show times are listed beside each date which you click "view all dates". It's not as simple as one start time, as it can vary per show. You've made an interesting point though, we should perhaps make this view all dates/times. I hope you found the info you required. Helen

Hi Dorothy Thanks for your enquiry. The rehearsal rooms we use for our drama classes are accessible for wheelchairs. However, our theatre building is Victorian and therefore accessibility is not as straight forward as in modern buildings. We have a lift that could take your son up to the top floor where the drama classes take place. One of our tutors would assist with this as there are a few tight corners to contend with. Once in the drama room, he'd be fine and the tutors can plan accordingly to make sure the drama workshop is suitable for your sons needs. Every drama workshop involves some kind of physical activity, so it would be up to your son to assess what he thinks he can participate in and join in accordingly. We would ensure the workshops were planned so he could get as much out of them as possible. The only other thing that may (or may not) be an issue is that our disabled toilet is two floors down from our drama rehearsal rooms. Therefore, we would ask that he goes to the toilet before class. If he did need to go, one of our tutors could assist him down in the lift and then back up to the drama room again afterwards. I do hope this answers your question. We'd love to have your son attend. We're happy for him to come along and try it out for a week first to make sure you and your son are fully comfortable before committing to a whole term. Thanks Angela Smith Education officer
