The Monster in the Hall

TAG

DUCK AND THE DUKE V CAT CLAWS PARSONS + THE NAMELESS DREADS (FEAT. THE LADY FROM THE SOCIAL SERVICES)

A new play by David Greig, at the Citizens and touring in Autumn 2010.

Duck Macatarsney cares for her biker dad whose MS is getting increasingly bad. Her Dad - Duke - is a spliff smoking (for medicinal reasons you understand), bike riding, heavy metal loving, horror movie loving, pizza eating widower who’s brought up Duck since the death of her Mother in a crash. The two of them are just about surviving when one morning the Duke wakes up blind and the Duck hears that the Social Services are coming to take her away.

The Monster in the Hall follows Duck as she tries to protect her world from the terrifying prospect of change.

A low budget indie comedy musical about a girl on the verge of a nervous breakdown played out by four actors and a big fat motorbike which goes vrrooommm.

A new play from the same team that created the smash hit Yellow Moon (Best Show for Children and Young People TMA Awards 2007).

What a fabulous production, acting of the highest order, clever juxtaposition of complex social issues with parts of speech. It was certainly the best thing we saw this year at the Festival. As South Africans involved in the arts, living in Edinburgh for the past 3 years, we were so impressed and proud - well done! Good luck with the rest of your tour.

Hi Jackie, TAG originally stood for Theatre About Glasgow. It was developed as the outreach arm of the Citizens Theatre in 1967and the company would tour schools in Glasgow. It then developed into its own company with a Scotland wide remit touring productions for children and young people. Since 2007 it has been part of the Citizens Theatre again and continues to produce work young people including touring productions and a large workshop and project programme. There is more info in our history section (click on About). Hope that helps!

Hello Tag/Citz! I have a 4 year old daughter (5 next month) who I think would really benefit - and love - being involved in your drama classes. Are there any spaces left for the Autumn 'term'? If so could we book up a place for Alice? Jules (mum)

I just accidentally deleted a comment amongst a load of spam, and only realised too late that included a genuine message which I can't get back. If you are awaiting the publication of your comment or question, please re-post. Apologies!

Hi Yvonne, Thanks for your comment. Show times are listed beside each date which you click "view all dates". It's not as simple as one start time, as it can vary per show. You've made an interesting point though, we should perhaps make this view all dates/times. I hope you found the info you required. Helen

I watched Treasure Island last night with my family, and was in danger of missing some of the first half because of the tears of laughter. This was a truly theatrical experience with two actors evoking a whole cast of vibrant characters. Bravo Wee Stories.

I just finished Level 2 recently and it was a fantastic experience. Tuition is excellent, encouraged to explore different topics in a friendly manner and develop yourself as an actor. I'm really looking forward to Level 3.

Thoroughly enjoyed this. Congratulations to all involved. Can't agree at all with comment from Amy (no surname) above. Some performances were better than others (aren't they almost always?). Some were excellent. there were lots of laughs. Stage set in the final act was stunning. Music was wonderful. Given the youthfulness of the cast this was a production to be proud of. Personally I don't like star rating systems so will not choose one.

I found the actress playing Olga truly convincing, and loved the light-hearted relief provided by the strong supporting male cast. Excellent adaptation, great acting and visually gorgeous, very impressed and look forward to more work from these talented students.
