The Sound of My Voice
Citizens Company
ARCHIVE
The Citizens takes its celebrated version of Ron Butlin’s novel to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2009.
Morris runs a biscuit company in Scotland. He has a house in the suburbs, nice wife and kids…but there’s one major problem. He is a chronic alcoholic and his life is falling apart.
The original novel of The Sound of My Voice was described by Irvine Welsh as “One of the greatest pieces of fiction to come out of Britain in the 80s”.
Originally produced by the Citizens Theatre in May 2008, the show has been invited to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for Summer 2009.

Beautifully cast and performed. I'm not a big play goer but maybe I should be more. Thanks

Fabulous performances. Billy Mack is yet again outstanding and Michele Gallagher supports him brilliantly in this harrowing account of Morris's alcoholism. You could hear a pin drop at the end. Brilliant!

Billy Mack captures the fine line of alcoholism brilliantly. An innocent drink for breakfast, why not? A few pints for lunch? It would be rude not to. This excellent portrayal is a captivating insight into a world where only a drink a will do.

The gradual decline of Morris' life is heartbreaking! Good performances from both actors.
