What we do

Delivering practical, creative learning for students and educators. Whether you’re a school group, or a student in further education, we love welcoming you into our theatre.

Find out about upcoming educational events or read more about our recent educational projects.

1984 Education

Students and educators are invited to experience George Orwell’s dystopian world on stage and dive in deeper with a series of educational offers that support the performance.

Across our run of 1984, school and college groups can access a range of options to suit the depth of engagement they’d like.

Workshops and tours for students

These opportunities are scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays across the run of 1984. Groups will attend a performance of 1984, experiencing Orwell’s world brought vividly to life on stage, with the education opportunities designed to be experienced either before or after the performance.

This suite of offers will:

  • Deepen understanding of the text and its themes
  • Connect literature to live performance
  • Reflect critically on staging and design choices
  • Strengthen written and practical exam responses

G5 Creators

After-school care sessions for Gorbals primary school pupils

In partnership with our two local Gorbals primary schools, we are offering after-school, fully funded drama and creative sessions. G5 Creators is inspired by the importance of play within the UN’s Convention on the Rights of the Child. The sessions will be open to P2-7 pupils from Blackfriars and St Francis primary schools.

Pupils will take the short walk together from their schools to the Citz for weekly after-school sessions. G5 Creators will focus on arts and creative expression. Pupils will explore various forms of creativity such as drama, visual arts, and storytelling. These activities are not only fun but also aim to foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. Across the year, young people will have the opportunity to take part in sharings and events.

Sessions take place on Tuesday afternoons during school terms.

G5 Creators are supported by Morag Williamson.

Higher education partnerships

University of Glasgow Theatre Studies Masters programme

In collaboration with academic staff at the university, Catrin Evans, Participate Director, designed and delivers a teaching module on Applied Theatre yearly.  This collaboration has enabled us to support some short placements for students within our Participate team.

Our higher education partnerships support future theatre practitioners.
