Leave a gift in your will
Support Us
If the Citizens Theatre has played a role in your life, you can support us by leaving a gift in your will.
How your gift helps
A gift in your will costs you nothing in your lifetime but has the power to open up creativity and theatre for the next generation.
Gifts help us to:
- Create fantastic new work
- Develop new talent
- Support local communities
How to leave a gift in your will
Whether you have a will, or are yet to prepare one, it’s easy to leave a gift to the Citizens Theatre and we can guide you through the process. Please talk to Mairi Rosko (Director of Development) or Molly Ross (Individual Giving & Events Officer).
On this page you can also find more practical information. Please seek legal advice from a qualified solicitor when making a will or amending an existing will through a codicil.
Types of will
Your gift to the Citz can take different forms:
Pecuniary: a specific sum of money. You can also link this to the Retail Price Index to ensure that its value is worth the same in the future.
Residuary: a percentage, or the remainder, of your estate after other wishes have been met.
Tax benefits
The Citizens Theatre is a registered charity. This means that a gift to us will likely be tax-free and could reduce the overall amount of tax due on your estate.
Information for drafting a gift in your will
Full legal name of the company: Citizens Theatre Limited

Suggested wording: Whilst you are welcome to leave a gift for a specific area of our work, we encourage you to include the words ‘general purposes’ to allow the Citizens Theatre to adapt should a project no longer be running.
Share your intentions with us
If you have already included the Citizens Theatre in your will, thank you.
You don’t need to tell us. But, if you feel comfortable sharing your intentions, we’d love to thank you properly.
