So Young - Announcing our new co-production with Traverse Theatre and Raw Material

The show was originally developed by our Artistic Director Dominic Hill, in the aftermath of the pandemic. It is a brilliant and universal story of what it means to be staring at middle-age and the end of life, and a hilarious Glaswegian comedy set in the Southside.

Written by Douglas Maxwell, the production will be brought to life by direction from Traverse Artistic Director Gareth Nicholls, who has said:

Both the Traverse Theatre and Raw Material are old friends of the Citz: Dominic was Artistic Director at the Traverse Theatre before joining the Citz, and Raw Material were recently based in our building. We are delighted to be joining forces with them on this project.

While redevelopment work continues on the Citizens Theatre’s Gorbals home, we remain dedicated to commissioning and developing new work and we are thankful for the partnerships that allow us to keep bringing the magic of theatre to Scottish audiences.

Projects like So Young underscore our longstanding commitment to fostering creativity and innovation, addressing contemporary issues, supporting artists, and representing diverse voices and stories on stage.

Meanwhile, the Traverse’s £1 Tickets Project, which sets aside a number of festival tickets for those receiving low income benefits or under the age or 25, incorporates So Young into the Citz history of accessible, affordable theatre for the people.

So Young will be playing at the Traverse Theatre from Thursday 25 July to Sunday 25 August 2025. We can’t wait to see you there!
