Leave a gift in your will

Support Us

If the Citizens Theatre has played a role in your life, you can support us by leaving a gift in your will.

How your gift helps

Leaving a gift in your will is a visionary step. Your gift can support the creation of fantastic new work, the reimagining of classics and the development of talent without limitation. It can help secure the future of your Citizens Theatre, and support people from all walks of life to engage in our award-winning community work and experience the joy and richness of theatre.

We understand that making a will is a highly personal decision and process and requires due care and consideration. We strongly recommend you speak with a solicitor to ensure that your loved ones come first and that the assets you have worked so hard for will be distributed fairly and in accordance with your wishes.

How to leave a gift in your will

Our Development Director Mairi Rosko can offer support and guidance about your gift, and ensure your wishes are followed.

If you would like to talk to us about your gift, please email Mairi Rosko or call on 0141 418 6240. Your call will be treated in the strictest of confidence; and the contents of the call will not be legally binding.

If you have already remembered the Citizens Theatre in your will, we’d love to hear from you. This will allow us to fully understand your intentions and to thank you properly for your support.

Types of will

Your gift to the Citz can take different forms

A share of your estate. Known as a residuary legacy, you can choose to leave a percentage of your estate to the University.

A fixed sum of money. Known as a pecuniary legacy, you can choose to leave a fixed sum of money to the Citz. You can also link this to the Retail Price Index to ensure that its value is worth the same in the future.

Tax benefits

The Citizens Theatre is a registered charity, so in most cases your gift to us will be tax-free and will reduce any potential tax burden on your estate.

Information for drafting a gift in your will

When talking with your solicitor, you will need to take the following details with you:

Citizens Theatre
Registered address: 119 Gorbals Street, Glasgow, G5 9DS
Scottish Charity Number: SC001337

They will discuss with you the type of gift you might leave and suggest wording to use.

An example of wording you could use:

I leave X / a X% share of my residuary estate for the Citizens Theatre, 119 Gorbals Street, Glasgow, G5 9DS (Scottish charity number SC001337) for its general charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt of the proper officer for the time being of the said charity shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors.

If you already have a will but would like to add a legacy gift to the Citizens Theatre, you can seek advice from a solicitor to make an addiction to your will, through a codicil.
