Cast dancing on stage, there are colourful lights

Shine a Light Appeal

Shine a light on someone you love

This Christmas, we invite you to shine a light on someone you love, by supporting us as we raise much needed funds to replace our stage lighting.

Love.

It’s the heart of the Citz. Love of life; love of community; love of people.

We shine a light on stories of everyday life, of people, of tragedy and triumph, and tell them with love.

By contributing to the Shine a Light Appeal, you can put a glow around someone special by making a donation in their name – and we will let them know they brighten up your days

It could be a memory of the first time you came to the Citz together; a moment a story touched your lives; or a funny moment when you both laughed till you cried. Or you might want to mark your own personal memory.

Spotlight someone special

  • Every donation to the Shine a Light Appeal will be credited on this page.
  • Donations of £25 and above will receive a special Christmas card to your honouree.
  • For donations of £50 and above, we will put their name and your message in lights. At performances of  Beauty and the Beast,  your message to your honouree will be shone onto the safety curtain in the interval.

There are so many reasons to spotlight a loved one; and so few reasons not to.

Following your donation, we’ll get in touch by email to gather your honouree name and message. Please allow 2 weekdays for your honouree details to be received and projected onto the safety curtain. Cards will be sent in time for Christmas for donations made by Monday 15 December. We are still happy to send it for submissions after this date, but we cannot guarantee delivery in time for Christmas.

Light up the stage

Our old stage lights dated back to the 1960s and are no longer fit for purpose. They were removed during redevelopment, but rising costs meant we couldn’t replace them before opening.

We’re hiring lighting for every show at £5,000 per production – a cost which quickly adds up for a busy theatre. Your donation will help us install modern, safe, and sustainable lighting, ensuring the Citz shines brightly for generations to come.

By donating to the Shine A Light Appeal, you will help us complete the redevelopment of the Citizens Theatre stage and shine a light on the essential stories we tell.

But, most importantly, you will brighten the day of someone who brightens yours!

Let your love shine brightly at the Citz this festive season.

The Citz has been a huge part of my life for more than 20 years. It has been such a privilege to steward the building through its journey and I couldn’t have got through it without my family’s love, understanding and support.

I know who I’ll be honouring. I hope you will join me.

Graham Sutherland, Technical Director, Citizens Theatre

Highly theatrical production image. A man in a sparkling suit and sunglasses sings into a microphone, while another two actors in colourful clothes stand behind. The stage is hazy and lit in bright green-yellow.
14 people on a stage stand holding Christmas ornaments in front of them, facing in different directions, and one man centre stage holds a cardboard box. A Christmas tree is lit in the middle of the stage.
A young woman in a red cloak stands holding a microphone at the front of a stage, with four tree people behind her, their arms and faces covered in twigs. A full moon rises in the background.
