Fair Friday
Community Co
Written and performed by members of the Citizens Community Company. A witty and nostalgic look at the Glasgow Fair holiday. An evening of true stories, traditional songs and community spirit.
In this age of white knuckle austerity, Glaswegians have tightened their belts, held onto their purse strings, cut their cloth and looked after the pennies.
Now after a long dark winter, summer’s coming! But due to necessary cut backs…
Magaluf’s oot!
Blackpool’s oot!
Portobello’s totally oot!
So before they shut the river we’ll be heading doon the watter one last time for a jig and a cone.
Tonight we’re gonna party like we’re licking a ‘99.
A nostaligic glance at Glasgow’s favourite holiday

Hello, was browsing your site whan I came across this fab idea! I'm loving the notion of a comunity based performance based on the Glasgow Fair and wondered if I can help at all? I'm the Assistnat Mangaer for Information and Culture in sunny North Ayrshire which means I look after Libraries, Museums and Art Centres ( amoungst many other things! )and the traditional Doon The Watter Towns of Largs, Saltcoats and Stevenston are all in our area! WE have a latrge collection of nostalgic photos, postcards etc etc of the area and Id be keen to see if we could tie up with your production. Whether through the items we have, connecting you with some of the local people who made their living from the summer trade, connecting with the local community based Fair Festival ( The Queen of the Sea ) or possibly offering a venue to perform the show here in Ayrshire I would really like to be involved in some way that might benefit your production. Please please get in touch with your thoughts. Lesley
