Community Collective visit the theatre

Our Community Collective finished their spring term with a surprise trip to the Citz.

The collective is one of our longest-running and largest groups. It includes some long-standing participants who have been involved for 20 years, appearing on the Citz stage many times, and others from the Gorbals for whom the theatre has been a constant presence throughout their lives. There are also members who’ve joined more recently and have never set foot inside the theatre. It was a special moment for them to spend time in the real home of the Community Collective together.

We made sure that our two longest serving group members, Gary Rowlands and Noreen Morton, were first through the door. The two have been attending the Community Collective for 20 years. As they led the way into the Courtyard, the smiles on their faces were infectious. Noreen said,

This has been the best day ever. I’ve been dreaming of it for so long.

The group were so excited to get this sneak peek on site! Members shared their thoughts and feelings throughout the trip.

It’s wonderful it has changed, but it feels the same, it embraced us we just felt completely at home, so it was lovely to be here.

Looking modern up to the 21st Century, I cant believe all the accessible areas to go to, and the fact that it caters for everybody.

Just pure unadulterated joy! Such a great surprise to get a look in the building.

Group leaders Elly and Neil reflected on how important it was to see the Studio Theatre space. It was great for the group to get a feel for what it will be like to perform in the Studio later this year with Game On.

The Collective were so impressed by the facilities and how flexible the theatre space was.

Everyone also enjoyed being in the Participate space too and they even played a game!

Looking towards our return to the building later this year, we can’t wait to be meeting in a professional space again.  It’ll be great have new facilities meet everyone’s needs. A space where people can cross the threshold and feel part of the building and wider Citz community, giving a sense of belonging. We’re excited to return to a theatre and to explore the building, realising its full potential.

Community Collective is currently focused on preparing their Studio show in October 2025. They will return to drop-in and welcome new members from November 2025.
