Support and training for artists and organisations
Volunteering
Altogether, we’re like no other
We are delighted to be introducing opportunities for people to volunteer with us here at the Citz, where people are at the heart of everything we do.
We welcome volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds.
Current volunteering opportunities
Our first volunteer opportunities will support our programme of tours and work with our archives.
We will be introducing further volunteer opportunities for specific productions and projects, as well as supporting the work we do in other areas of the building.

Volunteering FAQs
How much time do I need to give?
This depends on your role. A tour lasts 1 – 1.5 hours and would require some set up so you can expect to be in for around 2.5 hours per tour to help with set up and prep. Other roles, like archive volunteering, require a minimum of four hours per week.
Project specific roles – like if you are helping with a show – may require more time over a condensed period. We will work out your time together to ensure it suits you and the Citz.
What should I wear?
You will be given a Citz t-shirt. This is so you can be identified as a member of the team and a representative of the Citizens Theatre. You can wear this with whatever you like. We do suggest comfortable shoes as your role may involve a fair bit of walking.
Do I receive any expenses as a volunteer?
Yes we will reimburse travel expenses, up to £6 per day.
What happens if I need to stop volunteering?
We understand that people might need to stop volunteering for several reasons. We will be sorry to see you go but wish you well with whatever is next. We do ask that you let us know in plenty of time in case we need to schedule replacement cover.
Can I ask for reference?
Yes. After six months volunteering we are happy to write a reference for you. Most companies prefer referees to have known you for this length of time, and it lets us get to know you well enough to give a genuine reference.
What support will I receive?
On your first day at the Citz, you will be given an induction. This will include a building tour, an overview of your role and give you a chance to meet other volunteers and staff members. Training for specific duties will be given. Throughout your time volunteering you will receive support and supervision from a member of the team.
