Experience George Orwell’s dystopian world on stage and deepen your students’ engagement with the production. This interactive workshop combines practical drama with literary exploration, supporting students’ understanding of both the text and its theatrical adaptation.
Designed for those studying Drama and English, it features curriculum-linked activities that explore key themes, characters, and theatrical interpretation in 1984.
Booking schools will also receive a free digital resource pack to support continued learning after the visit.
This programme is suitable for; National 5 Drama & English, Higher Drama & English, Advanced Higher Drama & English, Interdisciplinary groups by request.

£8 per person. Teachers free.
1984 performance tickets are £10 per person for school groups and must be purchased alongside the workshop.
Between the workshop and performance, there’ll be time and space for eating food.
About the workshop
Led by professional theatre practitioners, this workshop supports exam preparation and critical thinking through active learning, helping to build students’ long-term understanding of how live performance is created.
During the workshop, students will:
- Explore how themes such as surveillance, control, truth, propaganda, and rebellion are brought to life in performance
- Investigate how character relationships and power dynamics are translated from page to stage
- Examine how Nineteen Eighty-Four has been adapted into a playtext, and how this is realised through design and directorial choices
- Develop a range of analytical and creative responses linked to National 5 and Higher outcomes in Drama and English
Tours and combined tours and workshops are available on other days.
