A Celebration of Giles Havergal
01 March, 3pm
Event details
If I’m remembered, I would like people to say: “Oh yes, we had some really good times, they did some really good shows.”
Giles Havergal ran the Citizens Theatre as its Artistic Director from 1969 until 2003. He led the company to become an internationally celebrated example of original and popular theatre, right here in the Gorbals.
Giles put the audience at the heart of the enterprise, introducing a repertoire of classical and European plays, exciting productions and a pioneering low-seat price.
Giles died in August 2025 – on the same day that the Citizens’ reopened its doors after a massive redevelopment.
Join us in a celebration of Giles’s unique contribution to life in the city as performers, colleagues and audience members pay a heartfelt and stirring tribute to this great man of Glasgow.
