What we’ll be reading
During this term, we’ll be exploring the work of playwright Zinnie Harris and in particular her play Further Than The Furthest Thing, first performed at the Traverse and the Tron in 2000 before transferring to the National Theatre in London.
This fascinating play evokes the fragility of a remote island community as their way of life is threatened. It’s full of curious characters with their own idiosyncratic language and set in a vivid, timeless land scape.
Zinnie Harris is a playwright that has collaborated with Citizens Theatre Artistic Director Dominic Hill on many productions, including This Restless House in 2017.
Further Than The Furthest Thing is available as a single play for approximately £10 (published by Faber, August 2000, ISBN 9780571205448.), or in a collection, Zinnie Harris: Plays 1 for £15-£20 (also published by Faber, ISBN 9780571356720).
You will need a copy in advance of the first session. It can be bought from a range of online stores including direct from Blackwells, Waterstones, and Bookshop.org. A limited number of second hand copies are available through World of Books.
