Welcome to Queer Folks’ Tales, Scotland’s hugely popular, multi-award-winning and five-star-rated LGBTQ+ storytelling show.
Queer Folks’ Tales tells the stories of LGBTQ+ lives past, present and future. Celebrating their 5th birthday this month, every show has a different line-up featuring LGBTQ+ storytellers from around Scotland sharing stories of queer experience here and beyond.
Sometimes hilarious, often moving, occasionally shocking, the mix of true and fictional stories is as varied as the range of storytellers we invite. Household names feature alongside new and diverse queer storytellers from the different communities of Scotland. Many of the stories told on Queer Folks’ Tales evenings will be true stories of LGBTQ+ experience in Scotland today.
Hosted as always by Edinburgh’s Turan Ali, joined on 31 October by national treasure, trans playwright Jo Clifford, Glasgow-based stand-ups Scott Agnew and Ruth Hunter and acclaimed singer-songwriter Mike McKenzie.

Line up
Turan Ali
Turan Ali has been a producer, director and writer of BBC radio dramas/comedies for 20+ years. He’s been a stage storyteller since 2012 and a stand up since 2019. He has two sell out monthly storytelling shows in Vienna and tours internationally. He’s the creator, producer and host of Queer Folks’ Tales (QFT) for which he won the Creative Edinburgh Leadership Award 2024. QFT now tours across Scotland bi-monthly and is Creative Scotland funded.
Jo Clifford
Jo Clifford is a Scottish national treasure, a playwright, performer, proud father, grandmother, queer church elder and saint with 114 plays to her credit including the internationally performed The Gospel According to Jesus Queen of Heaven. Her dramas have been performed all over the world and have been heard on BBC Radio, often dealing with very personal and political topics.
Scott Agnew
Scott Agnew is one of Scotland’s favourite stand-up comedians, from Glasgow. His award-winning and critically acclaimed fringe shows have tackled issues facing modern gay men including mental health, HIV, addictions, homophobia, stigma sauna culture and chemsex. Having survived a heart attack and three cardiac arrests in recent years, life is finds him in more reflective mood, as heard in his recent BBC Radio 4 comedy series.
Ruth Hunter
Ruth Hunter is an Irish comedian living in Glasgow. Regional finalist of the prestigious BBC New Comedy award, Ruth regularly supports Fern Brady, Alison Spittle, Helen Bauer & Kiri Pritchard-McLean. Runner up: So You Think You’re Funny award. Recipient of the Luke Rollason Memorial Bursary. “Literate, intelligent, off kilter and kinky” (British Comedy Guide)
Mike McKenzie
Mike McKenzie is an award-winning independent indie-pop and folk-Americana singer, songwriter, producer with albums to his name. He won BBC Radio Scotland’s Singer-Songwriter of the Year (2019). His music has aired on BBC Radios 2, 6 Music & Scotland.
