Digital collage exhibition by Jessica Worrall
The Power of Costume: Who are You Wearing?
August 2025 - January 2026
Event details
A reimagining of the Nine Muses, inspired by the statues that preside over the Citizens Theatre.
This exhibition shows a series of digital collage artworks made especially for the reopening of the Citizens Theatre. The artworks are inspired by the six statues on the building. Each piece shows a woman from history, now dressed in modern clothes. These images ask us to think differently about how women have been shown in the past.
Drawing from the original concept of the Nine Muses of Ancient Greece—goddesses who inspired creativity in all genders—these collages aim to restore agency to women in art history. Each piece juxtaposes centuries-old imagery with modern fashion.
Like a modern dress Shakespeare production, these works strive to make the past feel present, relatable, and real. The clothing choices reflect Jessica’s own taste and perspective, and she invites you to consider: How would you dress them?
