Theatre Lab 26/27: Scenic Insights – Designing Dystopia
08 Oct - 12 Nov
Event details
Theatre Lab: Scenic Insights is an annual programme exploring the design elements that bring theatrical productions to life, with a particular focus on set and costume design.
This year, Scenic Insights: Designing Dystopia will delve into the Citizens Theatre’s Main Stage production of 1984, alongside historical productions from the Citz stage that have explored dystopian narratives and settings, including Dominic Hill’s 2011 production of The Crucible and Sarah Kane’s Blasted (2002).
These sessions will be led by scenic designer Jen McGinley, whose work includes productions for the Citizens Theatre’s Main Stage, and supported by Heritage Engagement Officer Nicola McHendry.
Scenic Insights is ideal for anyone looking to expand their knowledge of theatrical design and explore how visual choices help shape storytelling on stage. Through a combination of discussion and practical activities, participants will discover the principles and processes behind scenic design, developing creative skills and gaining a deeper understanding of how set and costume design bring theatrical worlds to life.
Places must be booked ahead of the first session.
