‘Allow me to give you some advice, Billy…’

Award-winning writer and performer Alan Bissett, creator of The Moira Monologues, takes on the dual roles of two Scottish cultural giants – Billy Connolly and Alasdair Gray – imagining what might have happened when Connolly attended the 1981 launch of Gray’s masterpiece Lanark.

This witty and insightful play explores the struggles, origins, and creative triumphs of two Glasgow legends in an uplifting tale of resilience and artistic brilliance.

Commissioned by the Alasdair Gray Archive and the Glasgow International Comedy Festival, and directed by Kirstin McLean.

One of the Guardian’s ‘must-see’ theatre shows of the Edinburgh Festival 2025.

“Left me with immense pride in Scottish culture and enough inspiration to last decades.” ★★★★★ The National
