Young Co.
Make fearless theatre and be yourself
The Young Co. is for people aged 18-23 who share a passion for making theatre. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, no experience necessary.
This is your chance to explore every aspect of theatre-making – from performance and writing to design and production. Whatever your interests, we’ll support your development, nurture your creativity, and help you grow your skills.
As part of Young Co., you’ll gain hands-on experience and a unique insight into how professional theatre is made. It’s also a space to build confidence, connect with others, and be part of a vibrant creative community.
Practical information
-
Young Co. runs from September to June, with a four-day summer school in August each year. Our summer school introduce potential new members to the group before the weekly activity begins
-
Weekly sessions take place on Wednesday evenings from 7-9pm. Throughout the year, there are also additional sessions to prepare and rehearse for public events (these times vary)
-
Members have the chance to see shows, get involved in other parts of the theatre’s activity, and receive individual mentoring and support
-
Once you join Young Co., we expect you to commit to attending the majority of weekly sessions. Where attendance is irregular, we will enter into a discussion about how to support attendance
-
The group regularly works with our Participate Director and a range of guest theatre practitioners across the year
-
Between 2023-2026, membership to the Young Co. is subsidised with support from the National Lottery Young Start fund
How to get involved
There are 20 places in the group each year. The core activity runs from September to June. We welcome new members ahead of this in August each year, and during the first month, September.
You can register your interest in Young Co at any point in the year. To do so please email amanda.glover@citz.co.uk. You will be sent a form to fill in so we can find out about you and your interests. You’ll then be added to the waiting list until the next point where new applicants are considered.
You don’t need to audition for the Young Co. The group is curated to ensure each year is made up of people with a range of skills and lived experiences. We believe Young Co. should reflect contemporary Glasgow. We prioritise people who live locally, or within the city boundaries.
We want our sessions to be as accessible as possible. During the sign-up process, there will be a chance to include your access requirements. You can also request a chat with a member of our Participate Team.
To ensure the project benefits as many people as possible, each member is invited to stay with Young Co. for a maximum of two years.
What our participants say
“It’s refreshing to be in a space with people who want to explore with you.”
“I felt lost after my degree with going out and socialising and being at Young Co allows me to be with people my age. I can be free and not care about life for a few hours. I’m new this past summer but it’s already changed me for the better.”
