Young Creatives FAQs
Young Creatives are our Saturday morning activities for primary kids Primary 1-7.
Who is Young Creatives for?
We have two age groups, Primary 1-3 and Primary 4-7.
For each age group, there are two sessions, one in the morning (10am – 11.15am) and one starting at at midday (12pm – 13.15pm).
How many blocks are in a year?
We have 4 blocks a year.
Block 1 (Aug-Oct) and Block 2 (Oct-Dec) are focused on building confidence, developing ensemble skills and offering young people insights into different approaches to theatrical play.
Block 3 (Jan-Mar) and Block 4 (Apr-Jun) continue to focus on play and experimentation, with the group looking ahead to our annual celebratory sharing.
When can I sign my child up?
To complement the creative process we have 3 sign-up opportunities across each year of activity.
-
Block 1 (Aug-Oct) on sale in July
-
Block 2 (Oct-Dec) on sale in September
-
Block 3 (Jan-Mar) and Block 4 (Apr-Jun) on sale in November. For this double block, we offer grown-ups two payment points across these terms – to encourage commitment, alongside making it financially viable to commit to.
We welcome new sign-ups during any of these three periods. We don’t offer priority booking for existing attendees.
When possible, we try to offer existing attendees advanced notice of when bookings will open.
Is there a waiting list?
We run a waiting list for each block, so that if a space becomes available, we can make sure other young people get a chance to come along and get involved.
The waiting list does not carry over from block to block or year to year. We offer multiple opportunities for new young people to sign up.
Who runs the Young Creatives?
Youth programme is led by our Participate Director, Catrin Evans. Catrin works closely with the delivery team to map out the activity for each term. She is also the Safeguarding Lead.
Our Programmes Manager, Amanda Glover manages the week-to-week running of the sessions. Amanda makes sure the young people and the practitioners have what they need and are supported to deliver the work to the highest standards. Amanda is the main contact for parents and families.
Between August 26-June 27 the P1-3 Young Creatives will be led by Alice Donnely. Alice is an expert in work with young people.
The P4-7 Young Creatives are led by Suzanne Brady, who has a rich history of working with young people at the Citz and organisations across Scotland.
Will there be an opportunity for grown-ups to see the work?
The last session of each block will always be an opportunity for grown-ups to be welcomed into the space. You will get a chance to engage in and see the work their young people have been doing.
For Block 4 this is a structured sharing, where the young people present a new piece of work that they have created to share with their grown-ups.
Is this acting training for young people?
We don’t position our Young Creatives programme as actor training.
Our work with young people supports their imagination, builds skills, and nurtures resilience. We encourage young people to explore the world of theatre as broadly as possible.
Do we have a Summer Holiday programme?
In Summer 2026 we didn’t offer a Summer Holiday programme. Plans for Summer 2027 are under consideration now and details will be released in Spring 2027.
